Tārai Kura, June 2023 Pānui 17

By Diana Wilkes

Tēnā koe, and welcome to the June issue of the Tārai Kura pānui. Spaces and design for schools is currently a ‘hot topic’, both nationally and globally. Innovative school leaders are often working hard to balance future focused thinking and visioning for education with more cautious and at times conversative community perceptions and expectations. Additionally, school leaders are aware that there are growing numbers of ākonga whom require additional learning support. They are aware that thoughtful design is vital to ensuring learning needs for all ākonga are attended to.

In this pānui we focus on the theme of Space and Design. Di Wilkes provides some key design insights from the Learning Environment Australasia Conference hosted in Christchurch, May 2023. We share a synopsis and video from the Inclusive Design webinar held in June. This webinar was a collaborative event hosted by Learning Environments NZ and Tārai Kura. In this pānui we also share a curated kete of resources from Tārai Kura and Grow Waitaha, including ideas related to purposeful, future focused design.

See the Tārai Kura website for other ideas related to school design and future focused education.

Enjoy your well earned holiday break and enjoy celebrating Matariki.
